Applying media language:
McDonalds advert: Estate

In the first shot of the advert the technique used to show the location and setting was an extreme long shot, as you see the estate block and the entire background which shows that the location is a city due too all the large buildings.

The second shot which is a long shot of a group of youths. You can see it is a long shot as you can see what attire they are wearing and that is connected to the younger generation. Then there is a middle shot of a elderly man in the same location of the youths. His expressions are seen to be him showing interest in the youths way of listening too music.  There is an extreme close up of the cellular devices in which music is playing off. The extreme close up is indicating to the audience that it shows importance and is relevant to the story line.

There is a shot of a vinyl player which is an extreme close up , this shows that its retro and that the two characters are from two different generations. We as an audience see an old generation and younger one, they still has something in common which is that they find McDonald's a favourable place to eat. This is shown when both characters eat McDonald's fries in the same manner and this is shown in a close up shot. With these media techniques used in the advert it conveys that McDonald's has always been popular with all generations and will remain like that.

Connotative of kidnapping and a violent threat. Contrapuntal imagery compared to the chirpy pop song Extremely postmodern video - use of distressing horror imagery deliberately positioning the audience in a confusing and distressing situation. Extremely strong link between lyrical content and on screen visuals - an explicit description, perhaps a binary opposition between a conventional and subversive music video On the word 'riptide' a L/S high angle establishing shot of the sea, connoting danger and death A montage of C/Us of everyday items establishes to the audience themes of travel and solidify the overarching theme of escapism Mixture...

Riptide/ Steve Neale Theory

Task 1 Steve Neale’s theory of Repetition and Difference. Steve Neale states that genres all contain instances of repetition and difference, difference is essential to the to the economy of the genre. Neale states that the film and it’s genre is defined by two things: How much is conforms to its genre’s individual conventions and stereotypes. A film must match the genre’s conventions to be identified as part of that genre. How much a film subverts the genre’s conventions and stereotypes. The film must subvert convention enough to be considered unique and not just a clone of an existing film. Task 2 MUSIC VIDEO ANALYSIS The Lumineers- Ho Hey This music video is primarily performance-based as it features the band playing their instruments together and lip-syncing the lyrics of the song, all in slow motion. Above is an over-the-shoulder shot of the artist playing his guitar, this has been taken at a relatively low angle so the audience can feel the busy party atmosphe...
