Task 1 Steve Neale’s theory of Repetition and Difference. Steve Neale states that genres all contain instances of repetition and difference, difference is essential to the to the economy of the genre. Vance Joy   - Riptide The song fits into the genres of indie folk and indie pop, which explains why the music video draws its influences from indie sub-culture, evident in the fashions and locations featured in the video. Indie sub-culture is heavily influenced by iconography which revolves around the natural world and vintage culture, and a lot of music videos that fit into the indie genre focus themselves around natural spaces and areas. The indie fashions which are featured in the music video are also reinforced in motive by the overall look of the video, which has a somewhat vintage feel. This is due to the effects used on the video which make it appear also aged due to warmer colour balance used on the clips.
